Abstract

This Standard describes testing procedures and states performance requirements for general service incandescent and tungsten halogen reflector lamps. <br>This Standard includes performance requirements for <br>(a) wattage; <br>(b) lamp efficacy; <br>(c) rated luminous flux; <br>(d) centre beam intensity; and <br>(e) rated life. <br>This Standard applies to incandescent and tungsten halogen reflector lamps designed for general lighting use that have <br>(a) a rated wattage from 40 W up to and including 205 W; <br>(b) an operating capability between 110 and 130 V; <br>(c) an E26/24 single contact, or E26/50&#215;39 skirted, medium screw base; and <br>(d) a bulb diameter greater than 57 mm. <br>This Standard does not apply to any of the following: <br>(a) coloured lamps; <br>(b) lamps that <br>(i) are of rough (or vibration) service type and are specifically marked and marketed as rough (or vibration) service lamps; <br>(ii) have a coating or other containment system to retain glass fragments if the lamp is shattered and are specifically marked and marketed as impact-resistant lamps; or <br>(iii) contain a filter that suppresses yellow and green portions of the spectrum and are specifically marked and marketed for plant growth use; <br>(c) infrared heat lamps; <br>(d) lamps used in mines or in airfield, aircraft, automotive, marine, aquarium, terrarium, or vivarium applications; <br>(e) a bulb shape designated as BR as described in NEMA/ANSI C79.1 with <br>(i) a diameter of 95.25 mm (BR 30) and a rated power of less than or equal to 50 W; <br>(ii) a diameter of 95.25 mm (BR 30) and a rated power of 65 W; <br>(iii) a diameter of 127 mm (BR 40) and a rated power of less than or equal to&#61472;50 W; or <br>(iv) a diameter of 127 mm (BR 40) and a rated power of 65 W; <br>(f) a bulb shape designated as ER as described in NEMA/ANSI C79.1 with <br>(i) a diameter of 95.25 mm (ER 30) and a rated power of less than or equal to&#61472;50 W; <br>(ii) a diameter of 127 mm (ER 40) and a rated power of less than or equal to&#61472;50 W; or <br>(iii) a diameter of 127 mm (ER 40) and a rated power of 65 W; <br>(g) a bulb shape designated as R as described in NEMA/ANSI C79.1 with a diameter of 63.5 mm (R 20) and a rated power of less than or equal to&#61472;45 W; <br>(h) bowl mirror lamps (e.g., silverbowl); or <br>(i) lamps for heat-sensitive applications (i.e., dichroic cool beam). <br>In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. <br>Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. <br>Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. <br>Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (nonmandatory) to define their application.
