GUIDANCE FOR THE JOINT HISTORY PROGRAM

Abstract: Purpose. The Joint History Program provides the official record of the roles of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the combatant commands in the development and implementation of national security policy. It is an especially valuable source of historical, doctrinal, and legal information. This instruction provides guidance for the Joint History Program.
Applicability. The Joint History Program includes the Director for Joint History, the Joint History Office, the history programs of the commanders of the combatant commands, and Active Duty/Reserve Component historians assigned to the historical programs of the combatant commands. This instruction applies to the Joint Staff and the commanders of the combatant commands. It does not affect the responsibilities of the Services for preparing their histories and for conducting their historical programs.
