description abstractIntroduction
This Part summarizes the protocols used across the CDPD Airlink. Details of these protocols may be found in Part 401 through Part 409, which follow.
Communications between the Mobile End System (M-ES) and the Mobile Data Base Station (MDBS) occur at the physical and Media Access Control (MAC) protocol layers. These layers are described in Part 401 and Part 402, respectively.
Communications between the M-ES and the Mobile Data Intermediate System (MD-IS) occur at the Logical Link Control (LLC) and subnetwork convergence protocol layers. These layers are described in Part 403 and Part 404, respectively.
Radio Resource Management (RRM) procedures are performed at the physical, MAC and LLC protocol layers. These procedures are collectively responsible for maintaining communications while the M-ES moves between cells and between the serving areas of different MD-ISs. Part 405 describes the RRM procedures.
Security functions across the Airlink are described in Part 406.
Physical performance requirements across the Airlink are described in Parts 408 and 409.
