| description abstract | 4.1 Transportation security addresses a comprehensive range of security measures from shipping manifests to security escorts. Transportation security for any cannabis products and currency reduces the risk of diversion, loss, or theft during transport. 4.2 This guide covers the security and includes the required personnel security measures, physical security, security documents and records, and technical security applicable to the safety and security of people, product, currency, and property. 4.3 The transport of products should be conducted with meticulous security to prevent potential diversion and maintain the integrity of the products being delivered and any returns. Identify and implement strategies to mitigate risk, maximize employee and public safety, and ensure the safe transportation of all products and currency. This includes the delivery of product (defined as product in any of its forms) and currency. 4.4 Cannabis products come in many forms, and your risk assessment will initially help to identify potential security needs based on the product being shipped and its destination. However, it is important to note that the actual level of security measures required should be legally defined by authority having jurisdiction in each country, ensuring that all security protocols comply with local and international laws. 4.5 The recommended minimum specifications are Guides D8205 and D8218 (see Section 2). | |

| scope | 1.1 This general guide is developed to detail the secure transportation of high THC cannabis products, with varying formulas and potency thresholds, determined by respective regulatory bodies overseeing that specific territory, region, or country. It offers a flexible yet comprehensive framework tailored to various market regulations, aimed at maintaining the integrity and legality of cannabis products during transit. This guide could be applicable to a vertically integrated operator or a separate licensed cannabis products transportation company. This guide is meant to provide a starting point for the authority having jurisdiction over the licensed operators within the regions where the transportation of these products occurs. 1.2 Cannabis products should only be transported by authorized parties in accordance with the applicable regulations within the authority having jurisdiction. It is the requirement of each party to ensure compliance and legal authority for transportation. 1.3 A security plan, based on a threat risk assessment, should be in place and executed for shipment of cannabis products. The security plan should identify/address: 1.3.1 The assets to be protected, and 1.3.2 The identified threats to those assets during the phases of the transportation process. 1.4 The specific transportation security measures to be deployed, commensurate with the value of the assets and level/types of threat, are broken into three key areas: (1) physical security measures, (2) technical security measures, and (3) administrative security measures. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee. | |
