description abstractFor the safe carriage and separation of stores, it is important to know the flow field environment the store experiences during flight. In order to further the understanding of flow fields in rectangular box cavities at subsonic and transonic speeds, an experimental investigation was conducted to determine cavity flow characteristics. Static and fluctuating pressure levels within a cavity over the range of length-to-depth ratios where open, transitional, and closed flow were expected to occur were measured. A rectangular box cavity in a flat plate was tested in the Langley 8-Foot Transonic Pressure Tunnel at Mach numbers from 0.20 to 0.95 at unit Reynolds numbers around 3 x 10(exp 6) per ft. Cavities were tested over length-to-depth ratios ranging from 1 to 17.5. Cavity width-to-depth ratio was varied from 1 to 16. The boundary layer approaching the cavity was turbulent. This supplement presents a complete tabulation of the static-pressure data obtained.
