description abstractThis standard includes new test methods and test methods from existing standards to evaluate an insulative coating’s thermal performance and integrity after thermal aging. Thermal insulative coatings (TICs) are typically in liquid form and are applied at ambient or hot (in-service) temperatures by spray application. They are typically applied as a coating system with an anticorrosive primer. This standard does not include the performance testing of a corrosion protective primer by itself. In some of the tests in this standard, both a primer and the insulative coating are tested as a coating system. For the remaining tests in this standard, only the insulative coating is evaluated; the primer is not included. Other test methods (outside of this standard) may be used to evaluate the primers separately for their effectiveness for corrosion protection. The insulative coating manufacturer shall be contacted to determine which primer is recommended for their insulative coatings.
