description abstract | This specification covers aluminum alloy 2219 armor rolled plate and die forged shapes from ¾ inch up to and including 4 inches in thickness. Alloy 2219 is weldable to itself and other alloys of the 2000 series, but not to alloys of 5083 type materials and aluminum-zinc-magnesium series by present welding techniques. Material furnished under this specification should be one of the following types and tempers: Rolled plate T851 Die forged shapes T852 Intended Use: The material specified herein is military unique. This material has minimum ballistic limit protection requirements as specified in tables A-I through A-IV. The material will be used in military vehicles to protect the occupants against small arms fire and shrapnel. | |
