SMACNA 1995
Seismic Restraint Manual Guidelines for Mechanical Systems OSHPD Edition
Year: 2009
Abstract: This manual covers the anchorage and bracing of pipes and conduits up to 16" in diameter, round ducts up to 84" in diameter, rectangular ducts up to 120" × 60", and square ducts up to 96". For dimensions of duct not specifically given in the tables, the tables may be applied using the weight per lineal foot as the basis. The Manual is limited to interior installations and does not cover fire sprinkler piping, pressure piping, steam piping or any piping that is subject to thermal expansion. It does not cover hangers between brace points. It does not specify the maximum allowable brace spacing based upon the strength of the pipe, duct, or conduit. Nor does it cover equipment. All in-line equipment is expected to be braced separately.
The manual applies to steel, concrete, and wood construction. Concrete anchor values in Chapter 3 and connection details in Chapter 8 limit the connection size for each type of construction so that the brace spacing may have to be reduced to accommodate the structure type.
