description abstractCCITT Recommendation X.32 (1988) (henceforth referred to as CCITT Recommendation X.32 or X.32) specifies the interface between Data Terminal Equipment and Data Circuit- Terminating Equipment for terminals operating in the packet-mode and accessing a packetswitched public data network through a public switched telephone network or an integrated services digital network. References to X.32 in this document will be to the 1988 version unless otherwise indicated. This standard adopts the international X.32 standard, with modifications and extensions to apply to DTE/DCE interfaces. NOTE – This standard does not adopt the procedures for Circuit Switched Public Data Networks (CSPDNs) and the procedures for half duplex transmission. Except for DTE-to-DTE operations, this standard also does not cover T.70 procedures for data link layer address assignment or DTE and DCE identification by means of data link layer XID procedures. Annex A contains provision for the support of a DTE-to-DTE switched interface. Annex B contains specifications for a facility that allows the calling user to specify the modem characteristics of the called unregistered dial-out DTE. Annex C is a glossary of acronyms used in this document.
