description abstractINTRODUCTION: This Guide has been revised and brought up-to-date to reflect current practices in roadway lighting. The Guide now incorporates the luminance technique of roadway lighting design as well as the illuminance method which has been used in the United States. The previous 1976 Guide while allowing the luminance method of roadway lighting design as contained in the 1972 Commission Internationale De L'Eclairage (C.I.E.) Publication No. 23 did not present details of that method. The luminance method now contained herein is similar to the C.I.E. Method, but is modified to conform with the design employed in the 1983 edition of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), "American National Standard Practice for Roadway Lighting."
