Abstract

This Recommendation provides the stage 3 technical specifications for the common open policy service (COPS) profile at the interface between the policy decision physical entity (PD-PE) and the policy enforcement physical entity (PE-PE). The functional requirements and the stage 2 specifications for this interface are defined in clause 9.2 of [ITU-T Y.2111] and in [b-ITU-T Q.Sup51]. <br>This protocol profile allows the final admission decisions to be installed (i.e., either push or pull mode) to a PE-PE from a PD-PE, supports the resource control for both fixed and mobile access networks, and supports the network address port translation (NAPT)/firewall control and network address translation (NAT) traversal at the PE-PE as needed. <br>This Recommendation provides resource control procedure, protocol profile, modifications to COPS, messages and the definition and application of the policy information base (PIB).
