description abstractThis specification covers fibrous glass metallic cloth and tape packing for boiler casing access openings or insulation lagging pads and heavy-weight, rubber treated fibrous glass cloth and tape for pipe flange joint gaskets.
Packing or lagging covered by this specification shall be of the following types and classes, as specified (see 6.2):
Type I - Fibrous glass, wire-reinforced plain
Class 1 - Cloth
Class 2 Tape
Type II - Fibrous glass, heavyweight, rubber-treated
Class 1 - Cloth
Class 2 Tape Intended Use: Type I packing or lagging material is primarily intended for use as a boiler access opening gasket and as the inner surface of insulation blankets and covers for service temperatures up to a nominal 1050 degrees Fahrenheit (°F). Type II packing is intended for use in flange joint gaskets for air, cold water, hot water and brine under pressures up to 300 lb/in2, for steam pressures up to 300 lb/in2, and at temperatures up to a nominal 500°F.
