description abstractGeneral:
This standard provides color marking for thermoplastic insulated wire or color marking for thermoplastic jackets on wires and cables. In the case of transparent plastic jackets, the color marking may be applied to either the underlying insulation or to the surface of the jacket.
Application: Color marking shall be accomplished by use of either (1) solid colored insulation, or (2) body color with other colored stripes. It is intended that these wires be interchangeable by color with textile braid wires. Where, in textile, braids consist of solid colors with tracer threads of contrasting colors, this standard recommends that the base colored stripe (wide stripe) shall be used in lieu of solid colored textile braids. (See example in par. 3.3).
NOTE: It is further recognized that the application of colored stripes to solid colored insulations may give poor color rendition, especially dark colored stripes on dark colored insulations, and these combinations are not recommended by this standard.
