| description abstract | PURPOSE. This Instruction: a. Establishes policy and assigns responsibilities for military human resource records life cycle management in accordance with the authority in DoD Directive (DoDD) 5124.02 (Reference (a)). b. Prescribes procedures for implementation of military human resource records life cycle management (i.e., the creation, maintenance, use, and disposition) in the Department of Defense consistent with chapters 29 and 31 of title 44, United States Code (U.S.C.) (Reference (b)). APPLICABILITY. This Instruction: a. Applies to OSD, the Military Departments, the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Joint Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense (IG DoD), the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities within the Department of Defense (hereafter referred to collectively as the "DoD Components"). b. Supersedes all previous policy and/or procedure guidance on military human resource records management within the Department of Defense. | |
