description abstractThis standard describes the installation and maintenance procedures for high mast, roadway, area, and sport lighting systems installed outdoors for commercial, institutional, and industrial applications. This Standard applies to high intensity discharge lighting luminaires rated 600 Volts and less and mounted on poles. This Standard does not apply to specialized applications or installations with special environmental or regulatory conditions.
All information in this publication is intended to conform to the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA Standard 70). Installers should always follow the NEC, applicable state and local codes, and manufacturers' instructions when installing and maintaining high mast, roadway, and area lighting systems.
Only qualified persons familiar with the construction and operation of high mast, roadway, and area lighting systems should perform the work described in this publication.
Other National Electrical Installation Standards provide additional guidance for installing particular types of electrical products and systems. A complete list of NEIS is provided in Annex B.
