description abstractAim and Scope
Health as a positive concept addresses various life activities. Health protection in military forces has a strong relationship to health related policies in troop contributing nations. This publication deals with the specific aspects of health protection for deployable forces.
The aim of this document is to provide the framework for FHP in support of NATO operations. As an Allied Joint Medical Publication the Force Health Protection Doctrine describes the linkage to FP which is a joint function and provides medical guidance to be specified in subordinate Allied Medical Publications (AMedPs) and Standardization Agreements (STANAGs).
This document refers to MC 326/2 NATO Principles and Policies of Operational Medical Support. It is subordinate to AJP-4.10(A) NATO Medical Support Doctrine and takes MC 0551 Medical Support Concept for NRF Operations into account. It specifies FHP in line with AJP-3.14 Allied Joint Doctrine for Force Protection.
Medical Intelligence (MEDINT) is a key enabler of FHP. Information gathered in the MEDINT cycle is necessary for the identification and assessment of health hazards. Specific guidance for MEDINT can be found in AJMedP-3 Allied Joint Doctrine for Medical Intelligence.
Whilst CBRN Threats are a component of FHP, this publication does not provide specific guidance on CBRN Med aspects of FHP. This guidance can be found in AMedP-6 NATO Handbook on the Medical Aspects of Defensive Operations (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical), AMedP-7 Concept of Operations of Medical Support in Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Environments and in AMedP-8 Medical Planning Guide for the Estimation of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Battle Casualties.
