| scope | 1.1 This test method covers the measurement of pavement roughness using an articulated multi-wheeled profilograph at least 23 ft (7 m) long (Fig. 1 is typical). FIG. 1 Typical Profilograph 1.2 This test method utilizes a surface record made by moving the profilograph longitudinally over the pavement at less than 3 mph (5 km/hr). The record is analyzed to determine the rate of roughness and to identify bumps that exceed a specified threshold. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
