description abstract	Introduction The Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) is used within TIA/EIA-136 and TIA/EIA-41 wireless systems to replace the 32 bit Electronic Serial Number (ESN). The MEID format and function is as follows: • The MEID is a 56-bit identifier structure, which is assigned to the MS, that harmonized and compatible among 3GPP, 3GPP2, and TIA TR45 systems enable global identification. • Each MS is assigned a unique MEID. • The MEID identifies the manufacturer of the MS.
