| description abstract | REISSUANCE AND PURPOSE This Instruction: Reissues Reference (a) as a DoD Instruction according to the guidance in Reference (b) and the authority in Reference (c). Updates DoD policy and guidance and implements Reference (d) (hereinafter referred to as "the Act"), the NATO Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) (Reference (e)), and other international agreements providing authority for service courts of sending states to exercise criminal jurisdiction in the United States. APPLICABILITY This Instruction applies to OSD, the Military Departments, the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Joint Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the DoD, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities within the DoD (hereafter referred to collectively as the "DoD Components"). The provisions of this Instruction govern the exercise of jurisdiction in the United States over offenses committed by members of friendly foreign forces or the forces of sending states. | |
