| description abstract | This specification covers a portable petroleum sampling and gaging kit. The equipment is used to perform American Petroleum Institute (API) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) petroleum sampling procedures, calculating API gravity, and ascertaining the amount of water in the storage tank. Intended Use: The kit is intended for use in the field to provide an indication of product type or check for commingling of fuels. The kit covered by this performance specification is military unique because it is used in the brigade forward supply section of all divisions and has strategic mobility. In addition, the kit must be able to perform under adverse conditions and withstand drops above 1 m. Commercial equipment is not designed to withstand these harsh conditions. | |
