DIGITAL TERRAIN ELEVATION DATA (DTED)

Abstract: This specification defines the requirements within National Imagery and Mapping Agency's (NIMA) Digital Terrain Elevation Data Base which supports various weapon and training systems. This edition includes the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) DTED Level 1 and 2 requirements.
Purpose. The purpose of this specification is to assure uniformity of treatment among all mapping and charting elements engaged in a coordinated production and maintenance program for this product. Intended Use: This specification defines the content of Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED) which supports military weapon and training systems. The data covered by this specification is military unique because it is not releasable to the public and restricted to DoD users and contractors.
