Abstract: This specification covers the design, fabrication, and test of a communications set, designated AN/TSC-53, for use as part of a Forward Air Control Post, FACP, in the surveillance and control of aircraft. Intended Use: The AN/TSC-53 is intended for worldwide deployment with tactical air forces in support of CASE or USSTRICOM missions. It must be capable of rapid deployment via cargo aircraft, helicopter, rail, and truck. The AN/TSC-53 is an integral element of a Forward Air Control Post comprised of a tactical radar set, an operations central, and other communication facilities. The AN/TSC-53 is intended to provide for flexibility in meeting the needs of the FACP for inter and intra-site communications, to provide the ground/air communications capability of the FACP, and to provide the initial, and later, a back-up or augmented (Tropo being the primary) capability of the FACP to communicate to higher and lateral, echelons of the air warning and control system of the tactical air forces.
