description abstractREISSUANCE AND PURPOSE
This Directive:
Reissues Reference (a) as a DoD Directive to update policy and responsibilities for immunization services provided by the Department of Defense.
Provides immunization policies for the Armed Forces to increase military readiness, decrease the risk of preventable infections, and decrease time lost from training and work by military and civilian personnel, DoD healthcare beneficiaries, and eligible contracted workers.
Provides direction to protect military personnel, civilian personnel, healthcare beneficiaries, and eligible contracted workers from vaccine-preventable diseases, across the spectrum of peacetime, contingency, and wartime situations.
Establishes the military immunization program, a program of educational, public health, and clinical services to deliver and assess immunizations for military personnel, civilian personnel, healthcare beneficiaries, and eligible contracted workers in coordination with References (b), (c), (d), and DoD Instruction 6055.5 (Reference (e)).
Designates the Secretary of the Army as the DoD Executive Agent, consistent with DoD Directive 5101.1 (Reference (f)), for DoD’s military immunization program.
APPLICABILITY
This Directive:
Applies to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Military Departments (including the Coast Guard when, by agreement with the Department of Homeland Security, it is operating as a Military Service of that Department), the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities in the Department of Defense (hereafter referred to collectively as the “DoD Components”).
