Abstract

This standard describes installation procedures for nonmetallic raceways of circular cross-section used for electrical power wire and cable, communications wiring, or fiber optic cables. <br><strong>Products and Applications Included</strong> <br>This publication covers the following, when installed for commercial, institutional, and industrial applications in nonhazardous locations within the confines of the building structure, including raceways installed under floor slabs: <br>1. Rigid nonmetallic conduit (RNC) <br>2. Electrical nonmetallic tubing (ENT) <br>3. Liquidtight flexible nonmetallic conduit (LFNC) <br><strong>Products and Applications Excluded</strong> <br>This publication does not cover the following: <br>1. Outdoor installations. <br>2. Concrete, tile, or fibrous conduits or ducts. <br>3. Nonmetallic underground conduit with conductors (NUCC). <br>4. Surface nonmetallic raceways (SNR). <br>5. Nonmetallic extensions. <br>6. Nonmetallic auxiliary gutters. <br>7. Nonmetallic wireways. <br>8. Optical Fiber Raceway as defined in NEC 770.2. <br><strong>Regulatory and Other Requirements</strong> <br>a) All information in this publication is intended to conform to the National Electrical Code (ANSI/ NFPA 70). Installers should always follow the NEC, applicable state and local codes, manufacturer's instructions, and contract documents when installing nonmetallic raceway systems. <br>b) Only qualified persons familiar with the construction and installation of nonmetallic raceways should perform the work described in this publication. <br>c) General requirements for installing electrical products and systems are described in NECA 1-2000, <em>Standard Practices for Good Workmanship in Electrical Contracting</em> (ANSI). Other <em>National Electrical Installation Standards</em> provide additional guidance for installing particular types of electrical products and systems. A complete list of <em>NEIS</em> is provided in Annex A.
