description abstractThis specification covers one type of aircraft safety lap belt for the aircraft ejection seat systems described in 6.1. The belt is designated HBU-12/A. Intended Use: The lap belts covered by this specification are intended for use in aircraft ejection seats in which a back- or seat-pack parachute is used by the occupant and the overall restraint system may include negative-g strap(s) in addition to the shoulder harness, with the disconnectable ends of all such straps to be engaged with the belt buckle hardware when it is joined. In normal use, the belt halves and these other restraint straps are coupled and uncoupled manually, but are to disconnect automatically after seat ejection when the buckle hardware receives hot-gas pressure from a delayed firing initiator that is triggered during the ejection sequence. In some of these ejection systems the subsequent separation of the seat from its occupant initiates automatic opening of his parachute, because the ripcord is connected to a gold key that is locked to the lap belt when it is opened automatically.
