description abstractThis specification covers requirements for pyrotechnic component and system design, development, qualification, acceptance, manufacture, shipping, storage, and service life for unmanned and manned space flight. When this specification is specified on contract documents, the contractor may submit an alternative, corporate, detailed specification that meets the intent of this specification. Industry, government, and company specifications may be used in lieu of this specification if approved by the responsible National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Technical Authority.
Purpose
This specification provides the criteria for design, manufacture, and performance of pyrotechnic components and pyrotechnic systems for use in unmanned and manned Space Vehicles, e.g. Space Launch System (SLS) Heavy Lift Vehicle (HLV). This specification is not intended for pyrotechnic components installed on launch vehicle payloads but is applicable for upper stage (including kick-stage) pyrotechnic components, payload/vehicle separation pyrotechnic components and payload fairing (shroud) separation pyrotechnic components.
