description abstractThese requirements cover nonmetallic safety cans that have nominal capacities of 5 Imperial gallons (22.7 L) or less and that are primarily intended to store and handle fuel oil, gasoline, kerosene.
Nonmetallic safety cans that are intended to store and handle liquid fuels other than those specified in 1.1 may be subjected to additional requirements not covered in the Standard.
These requirements cover cans of two types, designated herein as Type I and Type II.
A product that contains feature, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the level of safety for the use of the product as originally anticipated be the intent of this Standard.
