description abstractIntroduction
Intent
The intent of this procedure is to determine the circular runout of the ferrule hole in the end of an optical fiber connector femile relative to the ferrule outer surface.
Accuracy and precision
The accuracy of the method is controlled by the linear standard used to calibrate the line spacing on the reticle or by the calibration of the roundness or height measuring instrument. Both accuracy and precision of all three methods are affected by the cleanliness of the part and the test apparatus. Test method 1 does not generate an absolute value for the circular runout, but defines an upper value under which the circular runout is bounded.
Applications
This procedure is applicable only to optical fiber connectors with cylindrical ferrules.
