description abstractThis project is officially titled "Mechanics of Granular Materials Instrument Flight 3 (MGM III)." The authorization for this investigation was a letter SDIO (64-99), dated 10-13-99, generated by the Microgravity Research Program Office (MRPO) granting approval to proceed with the MGM III project. This investigation is being developed for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) MRPO by the University of Colorado at Boulder (UCB) under NASA Contract NAS8-38779. This experiment was originally selected by the Physics and Chemistry Experiments (PACE) in Space Working Group in 1977 and subsequently approved for three flights in June 1993. This flight represents the last of those three flights. The science requirements for this investigation are described in the "Mechanics of Granular Materials Instrument Flight 3 (MGM III) Science Requirements Document (SRD), JA64-027D, as amended by the Investigation Continuation Review (ICR), October 1998.
