Abstract

<strong>PURPOSE</strong> <br>This text is intended to provide a thorough background in the design and installation of residential heating and air conditioning systems. Although detailed design information cannot be provided on every possible system and component under a single text, the most common systems are clearly described including preliminary sizing and installation guidelines. <br>Unlike other appliances and systems in a residence, the HVAC system has the most impact on the occupants comfort, health, and utility costs. <br>A well designed heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system should provide good temperature zone control, provide clean and filtered ventilation air, remove high levels of moisture and contaminates, operate quietly and unobtrusively, and minimize its energy consumption during operation. The following sections describe each system type, followed by more detailed chapters that address specific system components including sizing and installation recommendations.
