description abstract | INSPECTION STANDARD LIFE PRESERVES, VEST, FIBROUS GLASS Visual and Dimensional Inspection (classification of defects as per Standard MIL-STD-105) Critical Defects: 1 Pads not filled with fibrous glass material as specified. 2 Pads not properly located in jacket; not tufted as specified. 3 Pads missing. 4 Incomplete jacket. Major Defects: (sampling as per specification) AQL = 1.5 percent defective. 101 Type or size jacket not as specified. 102 Jacket outside and inside not made from cotton drill as specified. 103 Webbing for body straps and leg straps not one inch cotton webbing as specified. 104 Collar not made from nylon. 105 Stitching of cotton drill cover, nylon collar, webbing and tapes incorrect; not correct type stitch. 106 Cotton thread for stitching not as specified. 107 Webbing and tape attachment to drill not as specified. 108 Seaming of the print cloth pad covers (for fibrous glass) not as required. 109 Leg straps and body straps not stitched to the jacket as specified. 110 Lacing material not as specified; incorrect length. 111 Metal hardware (for eyelets, strap tips, "Dee" rings, adjustable tension slides, and snap hooks) not stainless steel or brass. 112 Metal hardware not properly attached or missing. 113 Print cloth (for pads) not as specified. 114 Completed pads not properly sealed or enclosed in the required vinyl film envelope. 115 Vinyl film envelope material not as specified; film thickness not within the specified tolerance. 116 Marking tag not bleached print cloth as specified; tag not sewed in correct location; missing; printing on the tag not waterproof black ink; not legible; not correct marking. 117 Jacket color not as specified, drill not vat dyed to match the specified color clip or card. Minor Defects: (AQL = 4.0 percent defective). 201 Jacket tie tapes and tunnel tapes not the specified width. 202 Tie loops and collar tie tapes not the specified width. 203 Laces not properly tied. 204 Webbing ends frayed, not turned under. 205 Hardware finish not as specified. 206 Completed jacket not clean, dirty or oil spots. 207 Tufting twine material not as specified. Inspection testing (sampling as per specification). Breaking strength test: Body strap assembly falls break test during the testing machine method or the alternate dead weight method. Pad immersion test: Completed front and back pads, including the sealed waterproofed envelopes, when tested as specified show leakage of air bubbles. Pad seam test; (Vinyl film envelope). One inch strips cut as specified and pulled apart at a rate of separation of 12 inches per minute, fails test, adhesion less than 8 pounds. Distribution of buoyant medium test: Fiber glass material for collar pad, back pad, upper front and lower front pads not distributed as specified weight nonconforming. Buoyancy test: Completed front and back pads including the sealed waterproof envelopes failed when tested as specified. Production, check test: (at a Government laboratory). Test specimen forwarded and tested as specified, see laboratory report for results, test specimen acceptable or re-test required. Referenced specifications and standards of the issue in effect on date of invitation for bids shall apply. Note: This standard is for the guidance of Government inspectors to assure uniformity of acceptance inspection. It does not alter the specification or the terms of the contract. The Government reserves the right to determine at its sole discretion, as they arise, any defects not included herein.
