description abstractThis standard shall provide general principles for the construction and fire protection of marine terminals, piers, and wharves.
Nothing in this standard shall supersede any of the regulations of governmental or other regulatory authority.
The provisions of this standard shall reflect situations and state-of-the-art techniques at the time the standard was issued
Purpose. The provisions of this standard shall be considered necessary to provide a reasonable level of protection from loss of life and property from fire and explosion in marine terminals, piers, and wharves.
Application. This standard shall apply to marine terminals as defined herein.
In addition to the requirements of this standard, special use piers and wharf structures that are not marine terminals, such as public assembly, residential, business, or recreational occupancies, that differ in design and construction from cargo handling piers and wharves, shall require special consideration.
This standard shall not apply to marinas and boatyards.
This standard shall not apply to the handling of the following:
(1)*Flammable or combustible liquids in bulk
(2)*Liquefied gases in bulk
