description abstractThis standard describes a method for determining that consumer fireworks being offered for sale to consumers in a retail sales area contain a material over an ignition fuse or ignition point that complies with the requirements for covered fuse in NFPA1124, Code for the Manufacture, Transportation, Storage, and Retail Sales of Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles.
This standard does not apply to a fuse or an ignition point on consumer fireworks that are not located in a retail sales area and are intended to be used for fireworks displays in compliance with the NFPA 1123, Code for Fireworks Display.
This standard does not apply to a fuse or an ignition point on pyrotechnic articles or fireworks that are not located in a retail sales area and are intended to be used in compliance with NFPA 1126, Standard for the Use of Pyrotechnics Before a Proximate Audience.
Purpose.
This standard sets forth procedures to test the ignition resistance of a consumer fireworks fuse or ignition point to three types of ignition stimuli: open flame, hot surface contact, and incendiary sparks.
These procedures are used to determine whether consumer fireworks offered for sale in retail sales areas comply with the requirements for covered fuses that are specified in NFPA 1124, Code for the Manufacture, Transportation, Storage, and Retail Sales of Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles.
The performance observed in each test is based on the specific test conditions that are used. If a firework is exposed to a different environment, as in an actual fire, it is possible that the performance of the firework will be different.
This standard does not provide information regarding the following:
(1) The pyrotechnic output of the consumer fireworks to which the fuse cover is attached
(2) Toxicity of combustion gases
