Abstract

The recommendations supplement the general requirements for reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete design and construction given in AC1 318-99, AC1 350-01, and AC1 301. Design and construction recommendations cover the following elements or components of circularwrapped prestressed concrete structures:<br>I. <em>Floors</em> <br>Reinforced concrete <br>II. <em>Floor-wall connections</em> <br>Hinged; <br>Fixed; <br>Partially fixed; <br>Unrestrained; and <br>Changing restraint. <br>III. <em>Walls&#160;</em><br>Cast-in-place concrete walls with steel diaphragms or vertical prestressing; <br>Shotcrete walls with steel diaphragms; and <br>Precast concrete wails with steel diaphragms.<br>IV. <em>Wall-roof connections</em>&#160;<br>Hinged; <br>Fixed; <br>Partially fixed; and <br>Unrestrained. <br>V. <em>Roofs&#160;</em><br>Concrete dome roofs with prestressed dome ring, constructed with cast-in-place concrete, shotcrete, or precast concrete; and <br>Flat concrete roofs. <br>VI. <em>Wall and dome ring prestressing systems</em> <br>Circumferential prestressing using wrapped wire or strand systems; and <br>Vertical prestressing using single or multiple highstrength strands, bars, or wires.<br><strong>Objective</strong>This report provides guidance for individuals responsible for the design and construction of circular prestressed concrete structures by recommending practices used in successful structures.
