description abstractThis standard provides minimum requirements for a risk-informed, performance-based change process for the fire protection program for advanced nuclear reactor electric generating plants during construction and all phases of plant operation, including shutdown, degraded conditions, and decommissioning. Fundamental fire protection elements for advanced nuclear reactor electric generating plants can be found in NFPA 804.
Purpose.
This standard covers those requirements essential to ensure that the consequences of fire will have minimal impact on the safety of the public and on-site personnel and on the physical integrity of plant components.
Protecting the safety of the public, the environment, and plant personnel from a plant fire and its potential effect on safe reactor operations is paramount to this standard.
