description abstractAbstract:
Because two RF transistors were overdriven, Mariner 9 exciter RF output showed slow and continual degradation throughout the mission. Short-term tests of RF circuits may not be sufficient to rule out zenering, and testing may be complicated by "healing" during the off period.
