description abstractThis Standard applies to the coding performance of portable air conditioners that have a rated cooling capacity of 19 000 W (65 000 Btu/h) or less and provide cooled air in one of the operating configurations described in Section 4.
Note: The air conditioners described In this Clouse Include dr conditioners with heating capability.
This Standard does not apply to:
a) testing and rating of individual assemblies, such as condensing units or direct expansion fan coil units for separate use;
b) computer or data processing room air conditioners within the scope of ANSI/ASHRAE 127;
c) room air conditioners within the scope of CAN/CSA-C368.1 or ANSI/AHAM RAC-1; and
d) the effects of air infiltration on portable air conditioners with single-duct Eondenser configurations.
Terminology
In AHAM Standards, "shale Is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user Is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; 'should' Is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may' Is used to express an option or that which Is permissible within the limits of the standard.
Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause Is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.
Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (nonmandatory) to define their application.
Units of Measurement The values given in English units are the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.
Purpose
This standard establishes a uniform, repeatable procedure or standard method for measuring specified product characteristics of portable air conditioners.
The standard methods and the recommended levels of performance, where they appear, are intended to provide a means to compare and evaluate different brands and models of portable air conditioners regarding characteristics significant to product use.
AHAM recognizes that for single duct condenser configurations of portable air conditioners, air infiltration plays a mayor role in determining the overall energy efficiency. The effects of air infiltration for these types of products are not presently accounted for In this standard.This standard applies to cooling performance only and is not Intended to cover the heating performance of units with heating function. Heating performance will be considered in a future revision.
The standard methods and the recommended levels of performance are not intended to preclude the exercise of ingenuity or to prevent improvement and innovation in design and performance.
