| description abstract | This specification covers hand wipe cleaners that do not contain hazardous air pollutants (HAP) (Clean Air Act 112(b)) and contain a low content of volatile organic compounds (VOC) or an exempt VOC (40 CFR 51.100) for use on aviation and missile systems.Intended Use: The cleaning compounds covered by this specification are intended to be used for hand wipe cleaning on metallic substrates prior to painting, metal surface treatment, non-structural sealant application and adhesive bonding. This specification applies to aerospace and missile end items/components and equipment as defined by National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs) for Aerospace Manufacturing and Rework Facilities and Defense Land Systems and Miscellaneous Equipment (DLSME). Cleaners approved to this specification are not intended for cleaning prior to die-penetrant inspection (FPI) unless specifically approved for FPI by the responsible technical authority. These cleaners should only be used when documented in approved DOD technical publications for maintenance of DOD materiel. | |
