Abstract: This standardp rovidest he mechanical,p hysical, and magnetic properties of a magnetic disk with an 8.268 in (2 10 mm) diameter and low surface friction intended for mounting in data storaged evices.A typical recording density is 480 tpi with 8464 flux transitions per inch (ftpi) at a radius of 2.978 in (75,64 mm). This standardd efinest he requirementsa nd supporting test methodsn ecessaryto ensurea cceptable performancel evelsi n the context of the generala pplication referenceda bove.It is distinct from a specification in that it delineatesa minimum of restrictions consistent with compatibility of media characteristics The performancel evelsc ontained in this standard representt he minimum acceptablel evelso f performance for typical applications. They, therefore, represent the performancel evelst hat the media should meet or surpassd uring their useful life.
