description abstractThis handbook provides the guidance for the development requirements and verifications for deployable aerodynamic decelerator (DAD) system or subsystem. Previously these requirements have been applied strictly to parachute systems however, the term DAD has been used to encompass any deployable aerodynamic decelerator, flexible or rigid. However, since many of the requirements and guidance have been developed for specific parachute applications, the term "parachute" is still used frequently throughout the text. For the purposes of the generic requirements and guidance, the terms "decelerator" and "parachute" are synonymous. This handbook is for guidance only. This handbook cannot be cited as a requirement. If it is, the contractor does not have to comply. Intended Use: This handbook is intended to be used for guidance in the development of any deployable aerodynamic decelerator (DAD) system or subsystem. The term DAD encompasses any deployable aerodynamic decelerator, flexible or rigid.
