description abstract | This specification covers requirements for parts fabricated from qualified modified polystyrene plastic conforming to Specification L-M-525. Intended Use: Parts should be made of modified polystyrene (see L-M-525) when a combination of the following properties is required: Low cost, low specific gravity, moderate to high strength, hardness, toughness, heat and chemical resistance, and dimensional stability. Parts requiring exceptional elongation and acid resistance, such as aircraft battery cases, should be made of type II material. Those requiring exceptional strength, heat and chemical resistance, with some sacrifice in impact resistance (such as containers for strong chemicals) should be made of type III. Modified polystyrene is not recommended for outdoor exposure applications, however, type III parts have better weather-resistant properties than do the other types. | |
