description abstracta. This Directive applies to documents prepared by JSC and/or contractor authors for distribution within the originating organization and/or other JSC organizations and their contractors. Distribution may include groups from other NASA Centers or their contractors who have contributed to the work described in the document.
The subject matter of JSC numbered documents may be technical, scientific, administrative, management, operational, or procedural. Examples are studies, plans, test results, project descriptions, and procedures that are of interest to more than one JSC division, but not to the aerospace community at large.
Attachment 1 summarize the criteria for JSC numbered documents compared to the criteria for the NASA wide scientific and technical reports series, described in paragraph 3b (1). The Documentation Management Branch will provide assistance in determining the type of number appropriate to JSC authored or sponsored documents.
b. The following groups or types of documents are excluded from coverage by this Directive:
(1) Scientific and technical reports by JSC and/or contractor authors for distribution throughout the Agency and to the aerospace and science community at large. Such documents should be considered for inclusion in the NASA scientific and technical reports series so that they can receive wider distribution, can be included in established indexes and abstracts, and can be referenced in externally published documents. NASA numbered reports may be published in one of several subseries (e.g., Technical Memorandums and Contractor Reports), as defined in JMI 2220.1.
(2) Issuance developed under JMI 1410.1. These include directives and manuals which delineate and amplify JSC policy on their subject matter.
(3) Specifications developed under JMI 2271.1.
(4) Engineering drawings developed under JMI 8500.2.
PURPOSE. To provide a system for identifying and tracking documents prepared at JSC for internal distribution, rather than for broad dissemination by the Agency.
