SD44 QUENCH MODULE INSERT (QMI) DATA MANAGEMENT PLAN
Organization:
MSFC - NASA - MSFC - Marshall Space Flight Center
Year: 2003
Abstract: The Quench Module Insert (QMI) is the first of a series of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) built furnace inserts planned for flight on the Materials Science Research Rack 1 (MSRR-1). The QMI is being implemented as a MSFC in-house development. Components, ancillary equipment and special engineering services will be procured as required to support the QMI activities. The MSRR-1 contains an experiment module, the Materials Science Laboratory (MSL) being developed collaboratively by NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). This MSL will accommodate several different removable and replaceable Module Inserts (MIs), of which the QMI is one, which are installed on orbit.
This plan describes the philosophy, system characteristics, and procedures for implementing the Data Management (DM) function for QMI. As used in this plan, the definition of data is any and all information required to substantiate the management and technical performance, cost performance, and schedule performance of all the QMI Project elements required to deliver science hardware and software and support equipment/spares to the intended mission manifest. QMI data can be in the form of documents or other media and as such, is an integral part of all technical and administrative functions essential to the successful accomplishment of QMI Project objectives. Through the use of DM, the QMI Project team will ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all data. The discipline of DM also includes the storage, retrieval, tracking, distribution, and administration of data, and is administered through the use of policies, procedures, specifications, and standards. QMI DM functions are as follows:
This QMI Data Management Plan (DMP) defines the required processes that define the QMI DM system that will be used as tracking and status controls for the handling of in-house and contractor data. The purpose of this DMP defines the policies, procedures, specifications, and standards that govern the processes to be used by the QMI Data Manager, Project elements, and Center organizational elements in the implementation of the DM system. The detailed operations in this plan are in compliance with MSFC Work Instruction (MWI) 7120.5, Data Management Plans, Programs/Projects.
