NATO STANAG 4455
Standardization of VME Bus for Use in Tactical Land Vehicles - ED 1 AMD 0
Organization:
NATO - North Atlantic Treaty Organization
Year: 1996
Abstract: AIM
The aim of the agreement is to standardize on an already developed and accepted commercial standard microprocessor backplane bus for the following reasons:
(a) to provide a common bus architecture that will support computing-intensive functions such as a vehicle borne BMS system;
(b) to provide a wide procurement base for future systems supported by the provision of commercial produced hardware during the development stage;
(c) to allow for the procurement of future systems supported by a defined and already accepted microprocessor bus together with its support environment (in an attempt to reduce procurement time);
(d) to facilitate a higher degree of component commonality thus reducing costs (large user base) whilst increasing component interchangeability;
(e) machine-based constraints such as addressing modes, word lengths, support software, languages will be obviated to some degree when considering interoperability.
