BAG, FIREMAN'S, UTILITY

Abstract: The body shall be constructed from fire, water, weather, and mildew resistant cotton duck cloth. The fabric shall have a minimum weight of 10 ounces per square yard and conform to CCC-C-419 except the color shall be natural, and shall have a finish conforming to class II of CCC-C-428. In addition, the cloth shall be treated with commercial fungicide 2,2 methylene-bis-(4-chlorophenol) also known as G-4.
The handle or carrying strap shall be fabricated from nylon webbing. The width shall be 2 inches with a thickness of .035-.050 inches (see figures 1 and 2). The weight shall be 1.25 ounces per linear yard with a minimum breaking strength of 1500 pounds. The color shall be Olive Green.
The thread shall be nylon of sufficient size and strength for the intended applications. The thread shall show good fastness to weathering. The color shall be Olive Green.

Unless otherwise specified the dimensional tolerances shall be as follows:
    Less than 2 inches ------------------------------ ±1/16     2 inches or more but less than 10 inches -------- ±⅛     10 inches or more but less than 30 inches ------- ±¼     30 inches or more but less than 60 inches ------- ±⅜     60 inches or more ------------------------------- ±½


There shall be seven metal snap fasteners evenly spaced along the protective flap as shown in figures 5 and 6. The fasteners shall be black and finished to prevent corrosion and shall be of adequate strength and design to function properly over the life of the end item.
The slide fastener shall run the length of the top of the bag. The slide fastener shall be medium heavy, brass, nonseparating, nonreversable type with closed stops at each end and a wire stirrup pull (see figure 5). All components of the slide fastener shall be Olive Green, except the brass chain and stops shall have a natural finish.
The slide fastener tape shall be ¾ inch wide with 1 ¼ inch tape extension. The color shall be Olive Green.
A thong shall be tied to the wire stirrup pull (see figure 5). The thong shall be ⅜ inch nylon webbing and 17 inches long before tying to wire stirrup pull. The color shall be Olive Green.
The protective flap shall extend past the length of the slide fastener. The flap dimensions shall be 36 ¼ inches long and 5 ⅛ inches wide (see figure 6).
Binding tape shall be placed around edge of protective flap and shall be made of ¾ to 1 inch nylon textile tape and applied as shown in figure 6. The color shall be Olive Green.
Figures 1 through 6 are provided for guidance in construction of this bag.
A commercial type label is acceptable provided additional printed cloth labels containing the information in 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 are provided.
The bag shall have a label containing the contract number and NSN caught in the seam connecting the top and side pieces on the inside of the bag.
The bag shall have an instruction label containing the information listed below. The label shall be caught In the seam connecting the top and side pieces on the inside of the bag.
                Machine wash cold, tumble dry, low heat                              DO NOT BLEACH                                    OR                  Use NAVEDTRA 414-01-45-81 - Formula III


The following styles meet the requirements of this description:
    Maine Center for the Blind - Style FKB-C-T10NC     Tennier Industries - Style TII01KIT


Other manufacturers may submit their styles to the procuring activity for evaluation by the Specification Preparing Activity and ultimate inclusion in this document if approved.
The bags shall be uniform in quality and shall be free from irregularities or defects which adversely affect performance, reliability, or durability.
During the solicitation phase, interested firms (including the manufacturer of the above approved styles) shall provide the, Procuring Agency with two product demonstration models of the item they propose to furnish for evaluation. The two samples provided by the successful offerer shall be tagged and sealed. One shall be retained by the Procuring Agency and the other furnished the assigned Quality Assurance Representative for use as a reference in performing the examination in paragraph 2.2 and the scoring of defects in design, material and workmanship not otherwise classified herein.
Intended Use: The fireman\'s utility bag is designed for use for storing and carrying firefighters suits and miscellaneous fire fighting equipment.
