CSA/AM ANSI Z21.19-2002/CSA 1.4-2002

Abstract

This standard covers gas-fired refrigerators having refrigerated spaces for (1) storage of foods, or (2) storage of foods and making ice, or (3) storage of frozen foods and making ice, or (4) storage of foods and the storage of frozen foods and making ice, hereinafter referred to as refrigerators or appliances. It applies to newly produced refrigerators constructed entirely of new, unused parts and materials: <br>a. For use with natural gas; <br>b. For use with liquefied petroleum (propane) gases; <br>c. Convertible for use with natural gas and liquefied petroleum (propane) gases for residential use; <br>d. For manufactured home (mobile home) installation for use with liquefied petroleum (propane) gases only (see 1.2.18); <br>e. For manufactured (mobile home) installation convertible for use with natural gas and liquefied petroleum (propane) gases when provision is made for the simple conversion from one gas to the other (see 1.2.18); <br>f. For recreational vehicle installation for use with liquefied petroleum (propane) gases only (see 1.2.19); and <br>g. For recreational vehicle installation convertible for use with natural gas and liquefied petroleum (propane) gases when provision is made for the simple conversion from one gas to the other (see 1.2.19). <br>The construction of refrigerators for use with the above-mentioned gases is covered under Part I (CONSTRUCTION). <br>The performance of refrigerators for use with the above-mentioned gases is covered under Part II (PERFORMANCE). Definitions are covered in Part IV (DEFINITIONS). <br>This standard also covers all electrical equipment, wiring and accessories built in or supplied with gas-fired refrigerators for use with low-voltage direct current or alternating current. Appliances for use with alternating current shall be nominally rated 120 V, 60 Hz. <br>Refrigerators for use with gas fuel that are also for use with electricity shall also comply with the applicable provisions of the current Canadian Electrical Code, Part II and the harmonized <em>Standard for Household Refrigerators and Freezers, CSA No.63/ANSI/UL 250.</em> <br>This standard applies to those refrigerators provided with a direct, self-contained type of system employing the absorption or adsorption principle of refrigeration. <br>This standard applies to those refrigerators that are designed to use Group 2 refrigerants in quantities not exceeding 6 lb (2.72 kg). Group 2 refrigerants include, <br>Refrigerant systems shall comply with the applicable provisions of the current CSA B52, <em>Mechanical Refrigeration Code and ANSI/ASHRAE 15, Safety Code for Mechanical Refrigeration.</em> <br>This Standard contains SI (Metric) equivalents to the yard/pound quantities. The purpose being to allow the Standard to be used in SI (Metric) units. If a value for a measurement as given in this Standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated is to be regarded as the requirement. The given equivalent may be approximate. If a value for a measurement and an equivalent value in other units are both specified as a quoted marking requirement, the first stated unit, or both shall be provided. <br>A direct vent refrigerator anticipated by this standard is a design option of the manufacturer and is an essentially balanced flue appliance, with the air intake and vent outlet in proximity. Other direct vent designs shall be subjected to such additional tests as believed necessary at the discretion of the testing agency. <br>Unless otherwise indicated on its rating plate, a refrigerator is for installation indoors in accordance with its marking and the manufacturer's installation instructions. When specified additional or alternate provisions are met, a refrigerator may be installed in a manufactured home (mobile home) or recreational vehicle. <br>All references to psi throughout this standard are to be considered gauge pressure unless otherwise specified. <br>Exhibit A contains provisions that are unique to Canada. <br>Exhibit B contains provisions that are unique to the United States.
