Abstract

This standard applies to manually-operated gas valves (see Part IV, Definitions), hereinafter referred to as valves, not exceeding 4 in (102 mm) pipe size, and pilot shut-off devices (see Part IV, Definitions), hereinafter referred to as devices. Except for hose end valves not intended for permanent connection to a hose, and appliance connector valves, these valves and devices are intended to be used as part of a gas-fired appliance. <br>This standard does not apply to valves intended for use in building piping systems. <br>Valves and devices shall be constructed entirely of new unused parts and materials. <br>This standard applies to valves and devices for use with natural, manufactured and mixed gas, liquefied petroleum (LP) gases and LP gas-air mixtures at pressures not in excess of &#189; psi (3.45 kPa). <br>Valves and devices covered by this standard shall be capable of operation at ambient temperatures of 32&#176;F (0&#176;C) to 125&#176;F (51.5&#176;C). They shall also be capable of operation at a higher temperature, a lower temperature, or both when so specified by the manufacturer (see 2.1.2). <br>A valve may be an individual valve or may be incorporated as part of a device which includes other means to control main burner gas. A component(s) of such a device performing a function other than that covered by this standard shall comply with the applicable American National Standard(s) or Canadian Standard(s). <br>Compliance with this standard does not imply that such valve or device is acceptable for use on gas appliances without supplemental tests with the valve or device applied to the particular appliance design. <br>If a valve for measurement as given in this standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated value is to be regarded as the specification. <br>All references to psi throughout this standard are to be considered gauge pressures, unless otherwise specified.
