Abstract: Scope: This standard provides the minimum requirements for fire and explosion prevention and protection of industrial, commercial, or institutional facilities that process wood or manufacture wood products, using wood or other cellulosic fiber as a substitute for or additive to wood fiber, and that process wood, creating wood chips, particles, or dust. Woodworking and wood processing facilities shall include, but are not limited to, wood flour plants, industrial woodworking plants, furniture plants, plywood plants, composite board plants, lumber mills, production-type woodworking shops, and carpentry shops. The requirements contained in Chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 shall not apply to woodworking operations that occupy areas smaller than 465 m2 (5000 ft2), and where dust-producing equipment requires an aggregate dust collection flow rate less than 2549 m3/hr (1500 ft3/min). Purpose. The purpose of this standard shall be to provide minimum requirements, with due function, for the design, operation, and maintenance of woodworking and wood processing facilities for the safety to life, property protection, and mission continuity from fire and explosion
