Abstract: This specification covers four classes of aqueous potassium hydroxide solution.Intended Use: General. Class 1 and class 2 potassium hydroxide solutions are used for the treatment of drinking and industrial water. Military unique. Class 3 and class 4 potassium hydroxide solutions are used in submarine electrolytic oxygen generators. Use of potassium hydroxide solution contaminated with excessive particulate or organic matter in an electrolytic oxygen generator can lead to a fire or an explosion. Therefore, the purity requirements for class 3 and class 4 potassium hydroxide solutions exceed that of commercially available potassium hydroxide solution.
