Abstract: This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense.
The requirements for acquiring the product described herein shall consist of this specification sheet and the issue of MIL-DTL-11484 listed in that issue of the Department of Defense Index of Specifications and Standards (DoDISS) specified in the solicitation.
NOTES:
1. The term (REF) refers to the measurements taken from the Government furnished hub or die.
2. Enameled areas shall be as indicated. The colors shall conform to the TIOH color chip numbers listed below or the standard sample.
3. Epoxy resin (stoning epoxy) may be used in lieu of hard enamel at the option of the manufacturer.
4. The device shall be centered on the vertical center line of the base and shall be soft soldered to the base. when epoxy resin is used, the device shall be attached to the base by rivets.
5. Attaching device shall be prong with pick and flat ball type clutch. The prong shall be centered on the reverse side and fused or soldered to the lapel button.
6. Each lapel button shall be mounted and centered on a polyethylene pad and placed in a rigid hinged plastic box having a transparent lid and opaque bottom section. The box shall have two plastic hinges and catches and shall be approximately 1-⅛ inches (2.86 cm) square and ⅝ inch (1.59 cm) in overall depth. The pad shall be of sufficient depth to restrict movement of the lapel button when the lid is closed.
CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS ISSUE: Marginal notations are not used in this revision to identify changes with respect to the previous issue due to the extent of the changes.

MATERIAL: Gilding Medal FINISH (Base and Device): Hard Enameled, Gold Plated, Matte Finish, Polished Highlights and shall match TIOH Metal Finish Chip Number 8. DIMENSIONS: BASE: DIAMETER: ⅝ inch (1.59 cm) (REF) THICKNESS (At Thickest Point): 0.060 inch ± 0.005 inch (0.152 cm ± 0.012 cm)
DEVICE: HEIGHT (Overall): 11/32 inch (0.36 cm) (REF) WIDTH (overall): 5/16 inch (0.79 cm) (REF) THICKNESS (At Thickest Point): 0.045 inch ± 0.005 inch (0.114 cm ± 0.012 cm) ASSEMBLED THICKNESS (At Thickest Point): 0.105 inch ± 0.010 inch (0.267 cm ± 0.025 cm)
